One of the purposes that Jesus came was that we might have life and have it more abundantly. This abundant life is not automatic, but it is accessible. It must be obtained, possessed, and guarded. It is this abundant life that there is an internally desire to have and become all that God has ordained for you. There is within every believer the internal desire to increase in life. This increase is a byproduct of seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. We are in a time when I believe that God is bringing increase within our lives as a result of seeking His Kingdom.
God has given every man a "measure" of faith. (Rom 12:3) For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
It does not say that God deals every man the same measure but rather that every man receives a measure. Therefore, some people possess a greater measure than others. Regardless of what measure you begin with you can increase your measure and enlarge your capacity.
Matthew 25: 14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
First of all we must understand that what we have is not ours. He has delivered the Kingdom goods to us, we are stewards, but He is the Sovereign. Your assignment is to manage what has been given to you. You really don't own anything. Everything belongs to the Lord. Until we recognize this truth, we will not be good managers of what has been entrusted to us. Our gifts and talent are on loan from Him.
We need to pause here in order to recognize that this word "talent" is different from our present-day understanding. A talent was a measure of weight. I want you to notice that each servant received talents "according to his ability." Your responsibility is tied to your ability. This is very interesting. God's kingdom purposes do not operate according to what is "fair" but according to what is best. God gives out of His abundance you what you can handle. The good news is that it is not fixed. You can increase your measure and thus enlarge your capacity. Your capacity is increased by what you do with the measure that God gives to you. And if you can increase your measure you can expand your capacity, and if you can expand your capacity you can be enlarged in life.
In 1 Corinthians 3:5, after challenging believers to be united by not breaking into subgroups who follow different leaders, Paul writes, "What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe-as the Lord has assigned to each his task." Did you catch that? Each of us has been assigned a task. It's our job to be faithful to the task of what He has given us to do.
Two of the individuals in the parable took what was given to them and doubled what they had. We must invest what we've been given. Verse 16 tells us that the man who received five talents went "at once and put his money to work and gained five more." He didn't waste any time but immediately went to work on his investment strategy and doubled his master's portfolio.
If God has entrusted His Kingdom goods into your life, you must develop a strategy for investing in what God has given you. Are you making an investment in your call, gifts, and talents ? If you want to increase in the things of God you must contribute time, energy and effort into what God has called you into with the expectation of receiving dividends from your investment.
The man who got two talents did the same thing; only the text doesn't say he went to work "at once" like the first man did. We do know that he worked hard however, because he also doubled his master's money, ending up with four talents.
God has given you an assignment. The assignment may seem overwhelming. If it is not, then it probably is not from God. Kingdom assignments come Kingdom sized. But with the assignment comes the faith in seed form filled with Kingdom potential. If you will increase your measure you can increase you measure of faith to complete and execute your assignment. It is the faithfulness of completing those assignments that you begin to see increase in your life.
